Cian Hogan is an archaeologist based in the West of Ireland. He has been involved in archaeology since 2003 - working on a number of archaeological excavations, and volunteering with the National Museum of Ireland.
He started Iarthar Heritage in 2021. Through this, he offers tours presenting the archaeology and history of Ireland. The purpose is to engage people about Irish heritage - both to entertain and educate. Operating as CeártaCloch, he provides specialist lithic analyses to archaeologists. This work covers material from both research and commercial excavations.
He graduated from Sligo Institute of Technology in 2009 with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Archaeology. His final year dissertation was a review of county museums in Connaught using Section C of the Museums Standards Programme. He is currently completing a Master of Literature at University College Dublin, School of Archaeology. This research focuses on lithic material from Chalcolithic and Bronze Age settlement sites.
He has worked with Earthsound Geophysics Ltd. since 2015, first as a field technician, then as field supervisor. He has carried out archaeological geophysical surveys on a broad range of sites, from small-scale research for local heritage groups to expansive infrastructure projects. As part of this work, he has given presentations and interactive sessions to local heritage groups. He has also developed liaison skills through working with landowners, and community members.

In addition to his work in archaeology, Cian has experience as an Outdoor Activities Instructor and as an English-language Teacher. In 2009, he was taken on as a trainee on the Outdoor Activities Instructorship course run by FÁS (now Solas). This covered training for leading groups hiking in mountains, on climbing sessions, and paddling on lakes and rivers. In 2012, he completed the Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) at International House Dublin. He has taught English to students of all levels, both one-to-one and group classes, in Dublin and Madrid, Spain.
